Rite I am in the process of tidying my leon up; its going for some paint in March (was there earliest availability!) as fitting a new bonnet (as my wife hit a deer at low speed last year) and has a few bits of lacquer peel in various spots an a mark on the tailgate which have been there sine I bought it last April.

But im also thinking I may try and freshen the wheels up a bit; not really looking to change them massively just thinking of given them a bit more shine as they look a bit dull.

Firstly what colour do people think would be best ?

And in doing a DIY re-furb am I best to get the tyres taken off and then just rub them down as much as possible; primer and then paint? Or can I get away with letting the tyres down and doing as much over the lip as possible?

Here is the car in question; trying to get it look reasonable for the least money really.

I would keep them silver. Not much colours work on silver bodied cars. Alot go for an anthracite colour, but on a standard car like yours, i don't think it will work too well.

Tip for painting them. Get a pack of playing cards and wedge them between the wheel and tyre. Saves pissing about masking them up and works a treat.

Yeah I was always going to do them a shade of silver sorry; I want it to look standard just a little fresher.

Card trick sounds good; cheers

Iirc my focus wheels were refurbished using sparkling silver, which was very bright. They certainly looked nice.

If you're going to keep the car long then it might be worth getting the wheels powdercoated, in normal colours like silver it's pretty cheap and weighed up with the cost of spray paint that wont last as long it can be better.
