So today i brought my car to the garage (Corsa C 1.4 Exclusiv), problem was the EML light was just staying on along with this my fan would stay on resulting in the engine never heating up and lots of that mayo shite about, also when the eml came on it would sort of go into a 'safe mode'. Basically they told me its an electrical fault and i need a new ecu... does this sound right? or are they conning me out of £250?
I honestly thought it was the switch/sensor thing on the fan just playing up :s?

Don't no much about corsa c but on a lot of cars the rad fan is controlled by the ecu now

What garage? Not big on the C's but can't you get it plugged in firstly to diagnose the problem.

theres a relay in the main fuse board that's switched by the ecu for the fan, this could be stuck. also it could be the ecu coolant temp sensor that's gone? think theres 2, one for ecu/fan the other for the dash gauge.
as said though, try some where else with a code reader. not un heard of to have ecu failure but more likely a sensor that's failed.
you say you have mayo in engine has the coolant dropped or engine oil gone up?

your looking for a 4 figure digit, it should flash the same 4 figure digit 3 times
10 flashes = 0

you could get an ecu code reader for under £50 and do it yourself.

Turned out not even to be the ECU and in fact the garage where either trying to rip me or just didnt know. It turned out to be that a sensor was replaced and the code not wiped so kept throwing up the eml.

trying to rip you off! first thing to do when doing diagnostics is to note any codes then clear them and try and reproduce the codes, ie a road test.
