TBH im not that surprised that it survived, they are pretty light and will have a fairly low terminal velocity, people forget that after a certain height it doesn't matter how much higher you go the impact will be the same, probably no different then dropping it off a multistory building. That and it landed in soft mud..

They are the nuts I've smashed one of mine into the ground on the front of an RC plane (I let my neighbour have a go and something went wrong ) it was good as gold afterwards (not quite from the same altitude) but its a good watch:

This. Which is why it still fascinates me that a cat can be thrown out of a plane and survive. More likely to than if it fell 30 feet in fact.

Surely weight has nothing to do with it. Being so small it'll be falling a lot faster than a person would.

A go pro vs a go pro weighing 100kg will fall at the same rate. A person has more surface area so more resistance so would fall slower.

It doesn't work like that, Gaz Everything has a terminal velocity. To do with their shape etc. A cat has a TV of 40mph, an adult male 125mph.

it was discovered when vets in New York had many cases of cats being thrown from the massive apartment buildings in the 80's. The ones thrown from above 7 stories survived better than those below. They travelled at the same pace but they had more time to self right and prepare for it.

Thats not quite how the story goes.
It was based upon survival rates of cats brought to the vets.
Percentage wise, a larger percentage died when falling a shorter distance, but that doesn't take into account all the cats which were so clearly dead that their owners didn't even take them to the vet.
