I'm talking about job/career wise.
Was just thinking about this yesterday, and tbh, I'm not. In my opinion I'm very lucky to be where I'm at, I partly got where I am through enthusiasm I think, but really, I have no desire to get much further. I'm currently earning a smidgen under the national average, which is actually a hell of a lot more than I've earned previously. This will keep on increasing for the next 7-8 years or so.
I look around sometimes to see what's out there... I could move up to London to do the same work and be on roughly £12k more, I could work towards getting in with another company I know of and be on roughly £14k more (although that would probably mean moving county)
It's strange though, in some ways I can be materialistic but at the same time I don't really want for much. I'm happy with my little old Clio and the odd gadget to enjoy... I'd love a double garage one day but I'm fully aware that will probably be a second or even third property for me. I'm 29 now and personally I'm just happy sitting back and doing a job which is relativity easy (most of the time) and concentrating on other things.
So how about you, are you always pushing to get more?

Material items mean nothing, what's the point In having no life/life you hate and loads of money?
I Have lots of goals, just not career goals as such.. I'm Working in order to fund personal goals that will actually mean something to me when I'm on dead bed looking back
+ my fav car has always been a corsa b, so no point In changing it

Not really. Finally have a job that pays fairly decent money, just bought a house and I own a couple of cars (granted, one is off the road and the other is a £500 barge!) live for your social life and the occasions where you can go for a few drinks, food with your mates. I'm happy enough. Can keep your portfolios and your 10 pages threads about how you won at life!

I've only just started my career properly so I still have ambitions of climbing up the grades. Don't have any major career goals, I'm not massively money driven, I'd rather enjoy what I do.
All of my main life goals are more personal like house, marriage, kids etc.
Becoming CEO of some company isn't something that interests me. I'd rather go down a technical specialist route than management.

I'm ambitious but I'm now hindered because of some bad decisions/laziness when I was younger.
I'm doing not too bad but I do like material things and unfortunately those cost money.

This basically.
As long as i can live comfortably, afford to have a few holidays a year and see plenty of my mates, I'm happy. Dont want for much in life, the best times you'll ever have are with your family and friends, not with some car or anything else material.
One of my mates just took a step down career wise for a better social/home life. Used to be on just over £30k, but it was a lot of shift work which included having to do a week of nights a month. His new job (in the same place of work) is about £26k a year, does 3 12hr shifts a week (mon, tues, weds) and the rest is his time. Hes much happier now.

Probably better off by the time you factor in travel and being able to eat cheaper if he's more time to shop and prepare. Could easily do in £4k pre tax on eating shit because you're in a rush.

He knows a lot of people too
If he needs to pick up a bit of extra work, he'll find it.

I used to be extremely ambitious with a strong urge to want to climb to a managers position.
For me, the industry seems to getting very hard work, there is very little profit in jobs anymore, time is heavily scrutinised, the same for materials and generally every project that lands is nearly already late or has a stupid turn around time.
It's not the sort of thing I want to be at the helm of anymore, where as ~7 years ago things were the complete opposite and every day was generally fun.
I have a 2 minute commute to work and get to see the kids in the morning and evenings and I don't think I'm prepared to sacrifice that, along with having to sort problems while on personal holidays etc

I used to be ambitions, if you'd have asked me in early 2000s, there was lots of opportunity in the college and I went for most of it.
Having not got any of it, I plodded along for a bit before realising I'd plateaued in that job, I was never going to get an internal promotion and I could see no point moving and spending more to get to a job, to work harder, to end up with the same money.
So when redundancy came up, I took it. I'd very much like my current ventures to grow and expand, but I also like not rushing about and being stressed so the rate of growth is somewhat capped by that attitude.
So long as I've got enough money to enjoy a few simple things and continuing the hobbies I'll be happy.
Big house sounds lovely but the only way I'm getting one is if I touch lucky and start making money without working too hard. I'll never be a slave to it.

I'd say so.
I started working for the company I work for now 13 years ago.
I started as a potato boy in one of their chip shops.
Worked my way up through the ranks.
In two months I will be finishing my time at uni to obtain my degree in Surveying, but even now I am in our Head Office working with the owner and two others.
My ambition is to further cement my position in the company once I have less stress from university, then obtain some properties for myself.
I am happy with my work/personal life once University ends however.

Definitely mileage in having more free time. If I could continue getting paid what I do now but stop having to work so hard for it, I'd be a lot less eager to earn more.

I've found that the only people that push career wise where I am do so because they live beyond their means and need the money.

That's probably because 60k as a baseline isn't bad if you can deal with the lifestyle.
