So we're going on 7th June for 2 weeks, starting in Vegas for 2 nights then planning:
1 night Palm Springs
3 nights Hollywood
1 night Laguna Beach
1-2 nights Santa Barbara
1 night in Carmel/Big Sur
2 nights in San Francisco

So have 2 nights to spare, thinking either more time in Hollywood/San Fran or possibly do San Diego after Palm Springs. The only hotel booked so far is the MGM Grand in Vegas, looked reasonable and couldn't really afford the Bellagio etc

Has anyone done something similar? Can't work out if it's worth going to Palm Springs, looks a bit dull? Also looking for any hotel/bar/food recommendations if anyone has any to look out for, would be really appreciated.

when you are in vegas, go into the cosmopolitan and aria, see what deals you can get, should get a room for £30, you will wish you spent more time in vegas.

Definitely see San Diego. Lovely city and one of the best Zoo's in the world. We spent a whole day at San Diego Zoo.

In Vegas I'd recommend eating at Japonais in Mirage. It's a European/Japanese fusion restaurant and it's fantastic.

Also try Stripburger (named for the location, not for the service).

No reason to spend 3 nights in Hollywood.

Santa Barbara is lovely, but you can pretty much see the whole thing in a single day.

Really? Mrs would be happy with that, are there many bars and restaurants? Planning on doing Disney and maybe Universal, there's a citypass thing that makes it a bit cheaper, that'll probs be it for LA.

Are all the hotels stupidly priced for drinks etc? Wouldn't mind a day or two by the pool and mooching around, rather than Palm Springs.

Cheers for that, it does look nice in San Diego and the beach bit at La Jolla. Think it might make sense to miss out Palm Springs, do LA for 1-2 days then down to San Diego.

oh yeah strip burger does the best burgers in the world

hotels are resonable for drinks, when you are in the casinos dont buy drinks, get waitresses over to bring your drinks then just give them small tips every now and again.

Yeah, if you want to do theme parks do that, go see the Kodak theatre, stars in the pavement, Venice beach, hollywood sign, Getty Musuem is alright and has a nice view high up if the city isn't covered in a dark haze.

Laguna beach has lots of places to eat and drink, nice hotels, nice beaches, nicer people.

Awesome. I'm considering an extra night in vegas so we can pop over to the Hoover Dam, just can decide whether to go on to San Diego from there (5 hour drive), of do Hollywood first (think that's probs the sensible choice). Any tips on where to stay in LA? Looking at West Hollywood but might just do longer in Laguna Beach instead as the general consensus is it's a bit pants, both pretty much equidistant to Disney anyway.
Was your Mustang a V6? Any good?
