Basically, I live on a huge chalk area (hence the white cliffs of Dover). I'm currently digging down in the front garden area for it to be block paved.
I've dug out the topsoil and have now reached the chalk, which is proving to be a real ballache to dig through, by hand (well, spade).
Are any other hand tools better for the job? I only have about an hour a day to mess about digging, so renting a power tool wouldn't be economically viable, although if thats the only way then i'll have to i guess.

Why are you posting in house day when you don't have a house? You aren't allowed to.
I'm from Essex, that's why. You're a fake one.

That looks perfect, but it also looks like I could do some serious damage with it

My dad usually helps with this stuff, but the moron broke his leg doing a job for someone else, so can't help me out

I have one of these you can borrow of for a few quid. Mine went through 6 inches of concrete so should go through chalk like butter. They are heavy though

Beginning to realise why people would recommend a skip and mini digger had 28 bags, got rid of 14 down the tip, done a bit more digging and now have about 30 bags
Getting there though. Perseverence/madness pays off.

About half done i think. That load of rubble piled up has gone down the tip. Think i've done about 40 bags now, so looking at around 100 once done
Tomorrows job is digging up the path. Not looking forward to that!

So yeah, still haven't finished this
Took bloody ages digging it out myself and bagging it all up.
Postman complained to his boss about a lack of a path (cunt), so got some type 1 and made a temporary one so said cunt can deliver his very heavy letters. Cunt.
Rest of the type 1 came so spreaded that out, then got my blocks delivered Monday and stacked them all in the garage:
2 tonne of sharp sand dumped on the front yesterday:
Played around with some patterns and like this one:
And finally today my dad had a free day so managed to come round and sort out the edges:
Gradually getting there. Need to sort out the levels in the middle and then whack it all down level. Shift work means we won't be able to lay the blocks until week after next.
Also gained some extra width as the previous owners put a fence up in the wrong place. Sorted that out with the neighbour today. Only 5 inches but it now means the fiesta will fit on the front with ease. Every little helps!

Got a letter from the royal mail sorting office saying it's a safety hazard for the delivery man and they won't be delivering my mail until I sort it
Did make me laugh. My missus could manage to bring a hundred quid of groceries through the door but the posty couldn't manage to survive the obstacle course to deliver a letter.

Looks good that, love the look of block paving.
What's with the wonky plastic pipe under the front window?
