What would people say? I'd say it wasn't doesnt have any VXR parts, i'd say it was a normal vectra with the vxr engine, but it seems there is quite a few of them that say they are ex police vxrs, thoughts?

Will be a mega mile dog, few folk have them on the vxr website most of them have endless issues. Unless you can get it for pennies. It would be one to avoid tbh.

Basically a base model with a vxr motor in it..

Abused. Might have been serviced regularly because its police, but thats about the only plus point and tbh, something you should expect from any car!

Plus that looks like a heap, the paint is terrible and it looks tired.

Ex Police versions are essentially SRi models with the VXR engine, Brakes, Suspension (but without the IDS stuff). Bodywork & Interior is all SRi, and wheels are normally 17" ones, as only a few of the GM 17s will clear the Brakes.

They mostly sell for cheapy cheap.

Because they go cheapy cheap, they get bought/sold a lot, get abused or get turned into 'VXRs' by the addition of some of the bodykit, or the wheels...

This one in particular looks ropey - kerbing, scratches, manky underbonnet, etc etc.

Genuine VXRs have been plummeting in price recently, so can be had for not a huge amount more than these really.

Are they the same engine exactly?

I know some are 2.8 turbo but its a different code I think?

There are 3x Engine Variants IIRC

Z28NEL - 230PS, fitted to Elite etc
Z28NET - 255PS, fitted to earlier VXRs
Z28NEH - 280PS, fitted to later VXRs

As far as I'm aware, the Z28NET/H were the ones fitted to the Police models.

There are slight variances with the versions, but i think the most major difference is a different VVT system on the Later NEH version compared to the others. They are essentially the same otherwise.

Only an issue on the later, post 56 registration ones really. The VED for earlier ones are half the price.

I pay the high band for mine. Have always accounted for it annually. Should be much better come the time that we can pay monthly instead...

I never understand the worry about paying £20 a month extra in tax. Of all the costs involved in a car like this that would litrally be the least of my worries

Fuel is more crippling than the VED on these. Oh, and front tyres...

Mechanically, they are pretty solid. Mines approaching 110k now, and is still sweet.

Most people I know (including myself) don't put the money for running and mauntaining their cars away every month, so when the time comes to shell out some money, it's all in the one go.

Should really budget for it, but i'm too lazy for that.

So at the end of 6 or 12 month's, do you think, " oh it's time to renew my vehicle excise duty" Or, as I assume, " I need to renew my road tax"

I just refer to it as Tax personally. But there you go.

Yep, dosn't matter how much you sugar coat it or break it down, its still double the price of what is essentially the same car with a different year of manufacture. That's what would piss me off.

As for the "road tax", i don't know anyone who refers to it as V.E.D or vehicle excise duty. Always say road tax. Its tax to keep/drive a car on the road, so road tax is pretty fitting.

Monaro is the same, 275 quid the day before, 475 the next day.

My Astra is 475 but you can't get an older turbo one.

Piss take for the same car.

Christ Ian! That is excessive.

I'd be in the same boat if my 75/MG had been registered six months later in the March.

Quite a few were too. Bloody ridiculous if you ask me. They were all already built. But any that sat unregistered for a few months longer ended up subject to a horrendous road tax hike.
