I have the chance to go for a few days next week, 5 or 6 days... I mean Dubai is pretty western so I guess I can assume the rules aren't 'too' bad? Mind out what you wear, where you drink, what you take photos of etc?

The weather will be great, could snoop about the shopping centres, see some nice cars etc

Dubai mall is incredible. It's very westernised had no issues. If you visit the palm you'll see many supercars.

I stayed here.

Spent a bit of time working out there this year, absolutely loved it. Just be respectful of the rules and you'll be fine.

Jumierah beach is great for a swim, the palm is worth a visit, & if you get a chance have a mooch round hotel Atlantis & the waterpark ..very cool.

Dubai mall is pretty amazing anything you want all under one roof, shops, food, cinema, ice skating, arcades, aquarium, you name it & you'll find it there.

Go and watch the fountains @ the base of the Burj Khalifa next to the mall, great restaurants, amazing food @ a brilliant view.

Found some good nightclubs out there aswell if that's your thing, just be careful with the drink.

The marina is great at night, lots of restaurants & you'll find quite a few super cars parked up nearby.

It's very westernised and I found it to be a friendly place, barter with the Taxi's as some of the private ones try and charge a premium.
It's very hot though so make sure you top up on the water ( I was working outside and drinking 7 litres of water a day)

Need to know anything give us a shout

Can't wait to head back out again next year

It's well worth a visit.
Personally I've only stayed in Holiday inns through work, safa park was where I stayed, fairly central & a short distance from the palm & Jumierah. Although they have a metro which spans the length of the city following the main Sheikh Zayed road from here you can get to anywhere in a few minutes.
There are restaurants around the Marina, business bay, Dubai mall & downtown Dubai to name a few. As for bars and nightlife they are mainly located within the main hotels but you can find some good nightlife out there. Just be careful with alcohol, its a dry country but it's not an offence to drink, just don't get caught drunk in public or you'll face hefty fines and sometimes worse.

It's not the ones in robes i'd be worried about, especially white ones.

They're far too rich to bother blowing themselves up.

Awesome place, Had our honeymoon there.

Stayed at Le Royal Meridien, Burj al Arab Sky bar well worth a visit, and the Budha Bar in the Grosvenor too.

Swimming with Dolphins at the Atlantis is good too.

I'm out in Dubai for 6 months with work just now and loving it.

Recommendations
Hotel wise I'd probably stay downtown or at the Marina. That's where most stuff is

Restaurants -
Souk al Bahar downtown has a load of nice restaurants and they all serve alcohol and most look over the fountains
Mango Tree - nice Thai place
Karma Kafe - good for ladies night
Rivington Grill - its nice, but British food that you can get anywhere at home

Souk Madinat Jumeirah is also really nice with lots of restaurants.

Down at the Marina
Buddha bar in the Grosvenor
Bussola in the Westin
The Observatory in the Marriot

During the day....

Nasimi beach is really good - my favourite beach club so far, although there are still plenty for me to try!
Meydan beach club is also meant to be really nice
Barasti - beach club / bar / restaurant - a bit more relaxed/casual
Blue Marlin - a bit further out the way, but meant to be good (the one in Ibiza is anyway)

then you've got the usual touristy stuff - going up the Burj Kalifa, desert safari, etc

there is plenty to do

All booked now, should make a nice little break anyway. Stop over twice in Qatar as well.
