So i'm hoping to have a second car, mostly for weekend use rather than commuting, but Aviva have thrown a spanner in saying the no claims discount stays on one car, the second would start from 0, would cost a fortune! Surely there's another way? I've had a quote on insuring it separately, but using the no claims, with another insurer, but i'm guessing they might have an issue with it if the no claims are on another vehicle/policy - if that makes sense? Help!

I was having the same problem so I went back on a trade insurance. Worthwhile if you have a few cars or change them often.

How old is your second car?
I use my ncb on my subaru
I then insure my mx5 on a classic policy for £250 odd including modifications such as 4 point roll over bar. I was getting quotes of £850 when putting it through one of those normal comparison sites.
If it's 10+ years old or something interesting you should be able to get specialised cover with limited milage

Cheers, will give Admiral a try. Had looked at a trader's policy about 6 months ago but was around £4k from memory for what I'd need.
It's an 07 Cayman, without any no claims it'd just be silly money.
I can print off the policy to prove I have no claims, just need to check the small print to make sure it's admissible.

I've got a 'normal' policy for my Fiat 500 and when I use it in the summer, I have a 'special' policy from Adrian Flux which is limited to 5000 miles a year and mirrors my NCB for my Boxster. All I had to do was provide Adrian Flux with my proof of NCB on my daily drive and sign an agreement for the limited mileage. The actual policy is underwritten by Equity Red Star though.

Admiral quoted £3k, can't take the no claims as it's on the other car. Not looking good

Me and the misses use Admiral... usually have 2-3 cars between us and it always works out the cheapest option.

I was with admiral and they called it "mirroring" my NCB, worth an ask.

Yep, called Admiral, no joy. Aviva's price was £3200, had £1k from direct line using the NCB but am a bit wary. Would they cancel it if they found them in use on another car?

Yes, you are definitely not allowed to do that.

Adrian Flux I have mine with. Even on 2 separate policies as one is a modified car policy, very reasonable.

Admiral for me also.
I'm looking to add a 3rd vehicle on come renewal, hopefully they will match the bonus again.

Admiral will only mirror NCB if you have more than 3 iirc.
I did have a multicar policy but when the Megane started getting slightly more purposeful i went onto a limited mileage policy with greenlight.

So it looks like i'm going with Direct Line, putting the no claims on the Cayman and the work Clio on 0 NCB. Having a black box on the Clio is the cheapest option, saves about £350, just not sure if it's wise. Guessing I can just remove it and go elsewhere on renewal if they say driving's been horrendous, price going up etc. Price £970 for the cayman, just me driving, and £1100 (with black box) for the clio with 22 year old colleague listed for business use.
Aviva quoted on similar basis, priced £889 extra to insure both til renewal on 15/04/15, just wary of what the price might be then though.
Looks like i'm best cancelling Aviva and going Direct Line, would also help to start gaining no claims on the work car quicker too I suppose.
Essay over. Any thoughts?

The Clio's used for work, both need covering for business use, Admiral won't touch it, though most others will.
