I knew fuel usage goes up in winter, what with warming car up whilst de-icing etc and general worse traffic, but I usually get to 300 miles before I feel the need to fill up (1 (digital) notch before red).

However last few fill ups it has been 250-260. Had couple icey mornings and few shite journeys to work just sitting in traffic, but this seems to be excessive reduction in economy.

I'm not being a MPG, just concerned car isn't running properly.

It was serviced about 3 weeks ago. Full service including fuel filter, plugs etc. No fuel dripping from car. Car is running fine too, not misfiring and acceleration normal.

Anything to worry about, or just usual winter reductions?

You'd probably get EML if something was actually wrong.

Colder weather it'll stay on choke longer and use more fuel won't it as you say could just be winter I wouldn't worry wish I got 250 miles to a tank lol

Fiesta 1.4 16v (Duratec). 2004 '04, 78,180 miles.

Different tyres recently Kumhos to Coopers but doubt that's it. Think the Coopers actually better

Wouldn't worry. Normally get 700 to a tank, lately been getting 620/650. Normal in the winter to get shit mpg

Around same as me deano in a 2005 Fiesta 1.6 16v Zetec S. I'm getting around 250 to a full tank! Although eml is on! Scanned it, shows something about both lambda's. Although they are both working switching from rich to lean so not sure what the issue is but I do need to get it sorted lol.

OK clever clogs, there are some things which won't show a light. In that case, they'll be hot.

I was meaning like as Andy says, EML due to lambda readings etc.

Yours is low mileage isn't it Andy? See that a lot on the Pumas and the lower mileage ones are worse, normally needs a cat.

Depends what you call low mileage Ian. It's an 05 plate with 80k so suppose for age it's low miles yeah.

Filled up today. Got 36 mpg as opposed to 39-41, so doesn't seem too bad. Just used to seeing it tick over 300 miles per fill up

actually that could be it.

my ex misses had a Jazz and it regularlu returned 58-60 mpg until we changed the tyres. i didnt fancy going back down the budget route and she was happy to go for a "grippy" tyre as we were going into the winter but as a result the MPG never got about 54 (as shown on trip computer)

have you considered other mechanical reasons? a wheel bearing for instance.
a very anal friend (more so than Deano) was very picky about his fuel and noticed a similar drop in MPG and got the car up and had a good look around underneath, the brakes and everything else he could find. as it happened he heard a bearing starting to go. as he worked in the trade got it done himself within 48 hours and his MPG returned....

I believe these tyres were better all round, so who knows.

Can't hear no bearings going, so who knows. Cheers though
