Are there some dos and donts? Or is it ok to play about within reason?

Basically i have picked up some 8inch wide alloys with some 225/45 size semi slicks on. But they are running alot closer to the car body work then i first thought.
I have in the shed my oem alloys which are 7inch wide so should help the tyre sit less boxy and i can put some cash back in the bank by selling these spare rims on...

Tighty tight as you can see as it stands so could be a risk on track

Putting a 225 tyre on a 7'' wide rim will make the tyre look and act like a balloon.

I'm sure there will be far too much give in the sidewall to be suitable for trackdays.

I wouldn't go that big on an 7 inch rim on a track tyre. That much movement on the tyre wall is probably going to result in the tyre popping off the rim.

Could you not just sell the evo wheels and the tyres seperate and then buy tyres in a sensible size ?

Will probably lose a bit of steering feel as well.

I fitted 225 on back of the lexus (7" wide wheels) and didn't have any issues with the tyres popping off. A lot of the Is200 owners fit 225s all round and none have had problems with the tyres popping off.

I'm sure a lot of 4x4 tyres run wider tyres, but I wouldn't be doing it on a car destined for trackdays.

I had 185 on a 7" rim on the Puma, never any problem.

Wasn't even by design, got those rims to clear the brakes and got those tyres because they were only available in a 185 55 or a 205 55, the latter being too tall.

Here they are receiving lateral G

It's 25mm different in rim width. There can be 25mm+ of difference in tyres that are stamped as a 225. But anyway.

Yeah was just re-reading the question.

Standard Puma fitment is 195 which is 7.6" on a 6" rim.

Corsa GSi/Sport 185 7.28" was on a 5.5 I think?

Other point is, what are your options?

You own the rims, will only cost you whatever it costs you to swap them. Which could be free if you know a man, try it.

I can't see them coming off. Not when some of these scene wankers run around with 165 on a 9 and its all fine.

That's exactly what I was talking about, before Nic started being a prick.

To me, that looks wrong for something that will be cornering hard on track. Looks like it belongs on a 4x4 doing the school run.

The fiesta zetec we gave back had tyres like that and the ride was comfortable, but it didn't exactly inspire confidence around bends.

Track focussed tyres usually have heavily reinforced sidewalls anyway to allow them to run at lower pressures without giving risk of popping off or giving a vague ride.

My R888's have been pretty resistant so far...

But that's on the basis you are using the correct tyre size. Dave has issues with loosing air pressure on his slicks and they aren't that oversized for the size of the wheel.

Yer the sidewalls on these are stiff as fuck but i still dont want to risk it if its not right.
