Hi, looking to upgrade my CCTV in the house and looking at the following equipment to build the setup:-
GULEEK I8 mini PC
HIKVision dome cameras
Generic HDMI monitor to connect to mini PC

My question is, would this all be OK? I currently have some crap cameras connected to a DVR but I would like email notification of alarms etc and an upgraded resolution of camera.

The camera link I have put up is not the EXACT model but hopefully the right make etc. Also whats the lense sizes that can be picked? Whats the difference?!

Is that an intel or ARM based PC. If its ARM then I suspect that most apps you want won't work.

A friend of mine has a system set that calls him via his wifi and he can see who is in his house and communicate if he wants to.. he can also call the cameras if he want to check on the dog and can tell the dog to go back in his bed etc. handy system.

cos the system is POE ha.

I have ordered the POE cameras now but going for an NVR instead of the mini pc route........

The 'system' isn't POE.. the cameras are.. you do know what POE means right?

It's an IP (network based) CCTV system. POE (Power Over Ethernet) is just a method of powering ethernet/network devices meaning you don't have to use external PSU's.


Hikvision's are decent cameras although i'd be wary of order them off eBay as they're like to be Chinese fakes - they'll generally operate the same as legit Hikvision's but flashing firmware usually results in 'bricking'.

They still need a powersupply to inject the POE feed unless you use an NVR with POE (but you have to make sure its compatible i.e. 48 or 12v)..

The Hikvision cameras are the nuts for the price.

Hi, yes Im looking at NVR's as we speak.

Need a 4 channel ideally with or without 2tb hard drive (can always buy at later stage)

Any advice would be excellent! I think Ill stick to HIKvision.

Ive gone for 2x 4mm lense at front and 1x 2.8mm at back

Was looking at this because of the excellent price but it only records in 2mp when cameras are 3mp

Those home user type Hikvision systems (white boxed) tend to have a low band width so even though it supports up to 8 cameras I'd be shocked if you can run them all in 1080p..

Yeah I only want a 4ch. we have a 8 channel camera system at our business and the quality is good but only when you click on "clear" instead of "fluent" on the IVMS-4200 software

just checked, not much difference plus I want 4mm and 2.8mm. So will stick to the 2132 mate cheers!

I'm using a different branded NVR and my own POE injectors as I'm running a 12v power supply (rather than 48v) so I'm using bog standard CAT5 with POE injectors/splitters at each end.

If you are using the HikVision POE DVR they are stupidly simply to install and configure, its literally plug and play.

2.8mm lens, its not quite on par with the HD-SDI quality but its still pretty good:
