I quite often check on whats cheap to lease, ive had the 160 a month corsa vxr and am now on the 255 a month golf R deal that was going around. 208 Gti Prestige have mega deal at the moment, very good spec inside aswell.

208GTi is all over HUKD at the moment. The GolfR Estate would've suited my needs perfectly if missus wasn't using it for business so needed diesel, now she's stopped I could've had it

Granted leasing isn't for everyone and you can buy an old second-hand car for what a lease will cost however, if you want hassle free motoring with a new car then leasing tends to be the better option when you consider the depreciated of purchasing that same vehicle outright.

I'm considering it but the lack of equity thing bothers me as I don't typically have deposit money every lease term so I'd end up car-less.
Reliable motoring though. Can't overlook that.

It's not garaunteed reliable motoring though. Granted it won't cost you anything if it breaks, but that's not to say it won't leave you stranded.

Plus newer cars are generally way better on fuel than anything 5+ years old, and will be less to insure.
My DS3 costs half what my old astra costs to insure.
DS3 does 48mpg on a run, the tax and maintenance is built in to the cost, as is breakdown cover and warranty.
If the deal is good, it is a very good way to run a car.
Owning a car is fine, but also investing all your capital in a depreciating asset is not always a good idea.

That's true but folk that lease tend not to do it on just 1 car then shrug it off. Time you do it on 2-3 cars you've paid well over £10k most likely with nothing to show for it.

Leasing that Peugeot and running it would still be cheaper than me running my Impreza which is a car I own out right with no monthly payments.
I've got "nothing" to show for that outlay every month except that I want an Impreza and it makes me happy. Having a brand new car on the drive makes other people happy, so that £145 is a satisfactory outlay for that.
I think the issue with the dead money argument is less about leasing and more about acquiring new cars on any payment plan.
If you buy a new Merc at £40k or whatever and run it for three years, you're probably going to lose £20k on that. Leasing the same car over the same length of time will come to a similar amount - so you're not better nor worse off either way.

Massively depends on the lease - if you find a decent deal then it can work in your favour versus depreciation; obviously you can spuzz money on a lease and it'll swing it the other way but generally you'll only find that where people are leasing expensive cars (i know a few clients that lease RS4/5/6's and it isn't particularly cheap) and they just want a new "flash" car in the car park without stumping up (/haven't got) £60/70k.

Of course Dom. For some people it's fine. Ideal even.
Especially if you're just going to keep renewing indefinitely and it's instead of buying the exact same car that you would have purchased, plus if the sums make sense pro rata to rent instead of buy, when considering depreciation etc.
For my situation though, it would not work.
If you're not in a stable job market for example, then a cheap car that you own outright is a better bet than essentially hiring one every month, because if you can no longer make the lease payments, then you are obviously no longer entitled to keep the car and you would be left effectively transport-less.
And what I said about spunking money is essentially not balls, as, in the simplest of terms one would be investing a sizeable chunk of money (that could be better used elsewhere) on something which you would have no entitlement of ownership to.
Am I correct in thinking that you have to put down a sizeable deposit in respect to these lease agreements btw?

Usually it's a few months upfront but it depends on the deal; it case of the 208 deal above then it's £400 or so deposit which is pretty cheap compared to a lot of the lease deals out there.

That's pretty good actually. I thought it might be more along the lines of two to three grand, maybe more.
I've almost always driven very cheap cars though, so I can still run a car for less then the best of these type of deals.
I would never consider buying a new car, unless I somehow wound up loaded and was in a position to buy something exotic.

I hate to piss on your parades but its not what you think it is as the website has got the deal wrong or LeaseComparison has posted it wrong on purpose to gather interest.
The 4 year deal is £211/month (47 months) with £633 up front.
So you pay a lovely £10,550 in total, which would pretty much buy you a 2 year old example which you would still have something to show for after 4 years..
