got home today after a long, hard day at college (lol!) to find out that i have got a speeding fine...63mph in a 50 it says....!
as you can imagine a 60 quid fine and 3 points on the license at 17 doesnt exacly make you very happy.
but listen to the worse bit- i have just fitted 16's to my corsa b and so the speedometer is out by 15%!
that means my speedo was reading 53.5mph when i was actually doing 63!
at the time i got court i had no idea that alloys affected the speedometer so i was well pissed off!
there is nojustice in this world-theres loads of ental boy racers doing stupid speeds around residential areas and i get done for something that wasnt really my fault!
is there any way i can change my speedo?
cheers, bye im going down the pub now to get drunk...

Even if you were doing 53.5mph you still broke the law as the speed limit is 50!

most are open due to the licensing change and if not, they can serve at 110 anyway

Thought you were allowed about 10% leniency when caught speeding? therefore 53.5mph would not be breaking the law.

I think it's an "unofficial" rule...

My fault, thought it was an actual rule something to do with accuracy of the cameras or something

They allow cars speed limit + 10% because of speedo inaccuracy etc.
Neilyp was doing 63 in a 50, so if he was driving up to 55mph he would have been OK.

It's actually 10+2, So 10%+2mph - meaning in a 50 u might get away with 57. Although this rule is not used so much now as police are adopting a zero tollerance idea

Not all police forces use the speed limit+10%+2mph method, some just use speed limit+10% method only.

mmm i always thought that a % leniency was to some degree, a myth. it was perceived years back when speedos werent as accurate and almost always underread the true speed. so getting away with 'doing' 5k's over was only because u werent really 5k's over. in oz our new car mags usually have a section in the cars specs stating true road speed vs indicated road speed and they always seem to be under read by about 2-4km/h. by going up in wheel size u make up or exceed the variance.

Of course no one sticks to the speed limit, the trick is not to get caught you see!
