Not Corsa related but thought I'd ask..

If a turbo is on its way out it sometimes makes a whine like a police siren.. But would I still be able to hear it spool up as it normally would?

Only reason I ask is my car (Leon Cupra) is making both noises??

Hard to explain but could the whine noise possibly be something else?

Cheers

a whine noise could be a boost leak, normally if a turbo is on its way out it will smoke (if seals going) , you could remove turbo and check for this and for movement in the blades (side to side)

It's not smoking anymore than normal.. Is it usually white smoke when the turbo is going?

I will have a closer look when I get a chance to get under the bonnet

if its oil passing through the turbo then normally its blue as its burning oil, as said above it shouldn't be smoking much at all - especially not white smoke

it could be nothing at all, first thing I would do is check for boost leaks, they can make some really odd noises, if that's all OK then you might need to take it off and have a closer look and go from there

The 'police siren' noise is a common problem on these from memory. Has a Seat Altea do the same and a mates MK4 Golf also. Never got any worse and didnt dent performance in any way.

As for the smoke, thats not normal, and shouldnt be doing it. Sure its not just steam?

My mk5 tdi smoked on start up and made the police siren noise you are talking about, in the end it was starting to make strange noises and boost was all over the place so I just got rid of the car

Is it not in and out movement that is more critical than side to side (to a certain extent anyway).

These engines (amk bam) suffer from cracks in the inlet port to coolant gallery area and as for your wooshy noise check the hot side of your turbo for cracks,my k04 is cracked to fxxx.
