Fleeting visit last year as part of our rally.
Only really visited Monza
However, it is epic. Even managed to get our car on the track.
Surprising when you travel through this lovely Italian city, through a gathering of houses, down a cobbled street and through what appears to be a park entrance to get to a racetrack

Went a couple of years ago, not massive amounts to do in the city centre but that is sometimes a good thing.
As we were going to watch AC Milan we centred our stay near the San Siro and found an amazing restaurant called Ristorante Guerrini which is well worth a visit if you're that side of the city.
Trip Advisor ranks it 5th in Milan > http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g187849-d2389673-Reviews-Da_Vic_Ristorante_Guerrini-Milan_Lombardy.html

Stayed in Milan when I went to the Monza GP, don't remember much of it specifically as we did a lot of boozing, but it's a lovely city to just wander around - loads of great buildings and the underground multi storey carparks are mental. Look down through the grates in the street and you can sometimes see 3-4 levels of carpark if you're looking down one of the gaps

If you're going to make the trip to Modena, you should visit Sant'Agata Bolognese too (not far) and go to the Lamborghini factory and museum, its a decent museum and if you book one you can get a factory tour. I enjoyed this more than Modena, although the Ferrari museum is pretty cool.
As others have said, not a huge amount to see and do in Milan but some fantastic places to eat and drink.

Just on my way back from Modena
Went the Maranello part and also enzo museum which was running an engine exhibition which was very good
Even though I am a huge Schumacher/F1 fan the enzo museum was better in reality but mainly due to the engine exhibition
Maranello was not what I expected - mainly industrial parks but can imagine to smaller villages just outside are the pics most people associate with this part of the world
Can't get in the factory but could see the huge wind tunnel they have and many brand new ferraris getting road tested before delivery
Will post pics when I get back from Milan for anyone who is interested in seeing them

Stayed at the excelsior gallia hotel couple of weeks ago. By far the nicest hotel I've stayed in.
