I fucking hate modern life! I hate my job, so rather than put up and shut up, I'm actively looking for a new job. After finding some over the past few months applying is becoming more fucking frustrating each time.

I bought the kids a laptop for Xmas, all singing all dancing as the desktop is now old and shit. So having recently getting stuffed for antivirus when the trial version ran out. I was looking through the jobs on said laptop and wanted to apply for one, so after following several dead and non working links I eventually find the job I'm trying to apply for. Tells me to download an application form. Well after I download it I can't open it without now having to buy some poxy fucking windows office program. Tried to "try before you buy" and I have to open some other fucking account.

Anyhow I'm staying in this job and nobody in my house is talking to me as said laptop is now deceased...

Fuck modern life what was wrong with CV in the post?

Nothing but since you chose to go down the digital route.....
If you would prefer to drive to the job centre or the post office to post the CV instead of opening an office account from the comforts of your own home that's your choice.

But as there is no address to post to and most jobs adverts seem to stipulate online applications only. My choice as you put it is somewhat limited isn't it.

This won't help you now, but "Avast" anti-virus is free, and you can also open Microsoft Word (.doc) files with "Open Office" - an open source alternative. Might be useful in future.

It's ridiculous now, isn't it?

When I started at my company almost 9 years ago, everything was handwritten and interviews were face to face, all done by employees of the company. Now it's been outsourced to Randstad and you have to apply online and have an interview via telephone.

I'd have no chance now as I hate speaking on the phone. It's a lot harder to judge someone as you can't get your personality across to them.

Ben G, you're not wrong! One job I recently missed out on was ridiculous, cv via some website middle of last year I had a telephone interview, an aptitude day, seven seperate interviews, security checks and medicals. Was sick as fuck in the end as you end up pulling favours etc to get the time to go for all this and piss your bosses off at work etc the time and money is stupid. All that for factory fodder beggars belief... Brain surgeon or astronaut maybe but for a factory worker?
