Right just ordered the above (£588) bit expensive gonna fit it myself, i have heard the power increase aint that good really, has any one got one fitted to a GSI with plastic manifold, and do they make that much difference.

why have you ordered one if you dont believe what the power increase is?
They do what they say on the box. Expect 20+ bhp more.

U have the early C16XE enigne? They work VERY well on these lumps. Dons is running 161bhp @ 7500rpm (M Box-4-2-1 Maifold, Cat BAck exhaust, Superchip). Also know someone who has a C16XE lump running around 145bhp with the same mods bar the superchip[ (Power from the mantzel box come higher up the rev range).
Dont expect great torque, but power wise they seem to be very good.

I would say those figures are on a very optimistic rolling road.
But still a very good mod for the money and easy to fit.

52bhp from just those?
You'd be lucky to get 12bhp from a exhaust, manifold and chip. Then 40bhp from a Mantzel?

Thing is, this is what i thought.
BUT
D5 was RR at 109bhp with a CAT BAck Remus Zorst (Standard bore size).
She had the CAT BACK system replaced and an ind kit fitted and it was RR @ 114bhp.
The modifications were carried out, and on the SAME RR showed 161bhp.
Even working out on the % difference the worst it can come out is at 155bhp.
Believe me, i was very optimistic about those figures as well, but....
There was a Nova done, same modifications as Donna has, same type C16XE engine, and was RR at 154bhp.
Only thing is it onlty has 117lb ft torque.

Considereing the engines were designed with 150bhp, then a different cam profile and inlet system and exhaust system were change for emissions, that about puts it right
The C16XE is much better than your X16XE lump for minor modifications.

Torque will hardly go up on N/A engine tuning anyway.
The way BHP at Flywheel figures are calculated leaves a lot for optimism. They only way to test it properly is to put it on a engine dyno.
How many bhp at the wheels?

161bhp is what you would get with throttle bodies and proper management. Not a pooper chip

Not sure, this was done quite a while ago. Wont put it back on the RR anyway. Have to take the front bumper off.
End of the day, it scares 2.0litres, and i think its a great engine, really does go some considering its got 17"s, and a hell of a lot of weight.
Even Steve Barley thought it was bloody quick when we were racing him to USC last year. And he's got a 225bhp Throttle bodies 2.0litre 16v
To be honest, she doesn't care how fast it goes. It drives nice on the road and theres plenty of power there when needed, so shes happy

Pooper chip was specially designed for the C16XE running M Box. VKR (before it went to Courtnay) got all excited when tuning it and couldn't wait for another C16 engine.
Pooper chip was to raise the limiter to 7500rpm and sort all the fueling out.

Still not a patch on proper management.
Raising the limiter is a big advantage though, for the cost.

Fair play, if its a nice civilised drive then spot on, if thats what you want from it.

Esp as she only Paid £800 for the lot to be done (M-Box, chip, fitted, setup etc).
As i say, shes not interested in all that. It goes well on the road, shes happy, she doesn't use her car for racing. She needs her license for work.

Best engine modification I could of done on D5. I've had plently of opportunity to put a 2.0litre in even Daimos engine was offered to me first, when my piston was cracked, but i wanted to keep then 1.6 as I love my engine and its the only part of the GSi left

Those of you who don't believe Mantzel is bringing that great performance:
I have a 1.4 16v, I have 125 bhp from Powerbox + chip (also from Mantzel, adjusted ECU).
They're now working on a 1.4 16v Corsa C, and it should give 145 bhp, with new cams, Powerbox and chip etc.

I dont like Dbalis. Patrick does, but i'd much rather a Mantzel box. Least there TUV approved and look the best Deffo best build quality.

Its all down to cost!
All the inlet manifolds should give at least 15bhp on a standard 1.6!
Mine gave +31bhp but it did cost £700!
Velos and lexmaull are cheapest.
Depends on how much uve got to spend!
Would recomend chipping it though as i got 4bhp more by raising the rev limit from 6700 to 7000rpm with more power stil to go!
All costs money though as if ure going over 7000rpm its worth getting con rod bolts fitted!
