Decided to attack my rear arches last night as the scrubbage has finally got too much. cut away quite a lot of the metal under the plastic arch to leave just enough to bond the plastic back to. Painted all the exposed metal with black hammerite then covered it in underseal so it shouldn't rust.
Can't tell if it's still catching as I've only drove to work but hopefully it should be cured now. Strangely though it only catches on the back drivers side and never on the passenger side, still gonna do that side when I get chance though just to be sure.
Who else has done this?? any problems when u did it??
Used a jigsaw to cut away the metal btw.

Not a hard job mate. I just jacked the car up on axle stands, removed the rear plastic arch, mask off the bodywork with masking tape to protect it from the jigsaw, sart at bottom right and cut round to left leaving just enough metal to bond the plastic arch back to (about 15mm I think) Seal the metal with hammerite, then once dry with underseal (inside and out) leave to dry again then bond the arch back on, I used silicon sealant which bonds it solid but lets you remove the arch again if u need to.
Also sanded back the inside lip of the plastic arch.

Mine rubs only on drivers side. Think it's because my axle seems to be slightly offset -- apparently they all can be as build tolerances aren't perfect. Also the fuel tank is driver's side isn't it (?) so it's poss got a little more weight...
