ive never understood the differencearent they the same thing?. according to my haynes manual it referes to the intercooler as a charge cooler anyway. which makes sense, cos the air is charge cooled in an intercooler. hmm wierd.

water cools the inlet charge rather than air. the water is circulated round the cooler and pumped through a small radiator at the front of the car. charge coolers do not have to be as big as intercoolers. problem with charge coolers that once the get heat soak it takes longer for the water to be back at it's most iffecent unlike an intercooler which gets cold very quickly.
you know what an intercooler is like.

jabba do a chargecooler kit as fitted to their IHI conversions. FMIC's are good but can be very expenisve. you could maybe have a look at a golf GTi TDi 150 intercooler. it is a front mount. also forge so an uprated SMIC also which has got good reviews. one more thing you could do is make the path to the intercooler better

unfortunately, the a3 is not a commonly tuned car so there are very few tuning parts available for it, as i have found out. Most parts are normally sourced from golf, a4 or tt so its a mix and match really. This is why i have been having problems finding a decent cooling system

yup, right there mate, some parts do vary and i have been told i can get a pace fmic from a TT that will fit mine, still a bit overpriced though. Ill have to look into this as ive seen a few tasty bits on ABD for the golf 1.8t that are dead cheap and give great increases, or so they state...

it's not worth it on it's own really. only when you start pissing around with boost does the bigger interooler seem worth it. for the money your better off with Revo tunning
