...can anyone give me a simple description of how they work, and the benefits of them over a turbo or supercharger?!

Basically it shortens the distance the air has to trave to enter the cylinder to about 9 inches, rather than a few foot, and so free's up loads of power

Advantages are more reliabilty, and less engine strengthening needed, as air is still being sucked in, rather than forced in, which causes more stress. Also better for the engine, as less heat in the engine bay
