My computer was running at 75 degrees celsius. I had a warning saying it was overheating. What could cause this???

Fan might be buggered, connection with heat sink might be buggered, u might need a new power suply as well. Try getting an additional fan.

try putting some thermal compund between the CPU and the heat sink, and by the sounds of it, possibly replacing the PSU.

LOL your saying PSU just because your alternator was giving all your car too much power
I suggest a proper thermal compound, and a copper based heatsink with a 4500RPM speed fan minimum

Sounds like PSU is fucked. May or may not be related to the whirring noises you experienced previously...

i got some techheads to help me and they said it was most definately the PSU cooling fan, and the ball bearings in the fan were making the noise. A touch of castor oil should help it! I am going to invest in a second fan for my case, a MUCH larger 120mm item!

right, fitted a new fan/heatsink to my CPU today. Temperatures have dropped by at least 5 degrees on the chip. Good news, and should prevent temperatures from soaring again. Only problem is, its extremely noisy, and the high pitched whirring noise resumes. I suspected it could have been the case fan, so i unplugged it but the noise remained. I have come to the conclusion that it is definately the PSU. bummer.
