If the engine stumbles or stalls at idle or lacks power under load, EGR may be staying on and not shutting off. On the other hand, if the engine is pinking at cruise, EGR may not be turning on.
Try cleaning the valve as they get clogged or coked failing that the EGR valve can be blanked off but it must still be connected electrically to fool the computer. This operation will not impair the engine at all.
has ure ecu light not come on as mine did and it was through doin my own fault code paperclip test i found out it was deffo my egr

my egr is fuct! its alright to drive, if you dont mind engine stumbles when your setting off. if your engine is an ecotec your looking around 350 -400 pounds to getting it fix, as the egr costs a bomb!

No it doesn't.
The C16XE has the EGR ports in the head, they are just blocked off by the manifolds.
I've got the EGR valve that bolts to the back of the inlet manifold for sale if anyone needs one.

Or you could go down the local scrappy.. find the lowest mileage ecotec engine and take the EGR off it and replace it.. It only took me 20 mins to swap over. All you've goto do is drain the coolant disconnect the hose and then 4 screws oh and get a new gasket from vauxhall as mine was a bit fooked when i took it off..
Total cost = 20quid
then a quick ECU reset and no more light plus no groggy engine at start off
