I couldn't get a closer match on the colour without loosing too much detail on parts of the car.

Nah, the easiest trick is to use the hue/saturation adjustment

Thats what I did, but found a blue colour then lightened it, but if ya do it too much u loose detail as it all goes white! lol

Is there any other way to do a colour change apart from hue/sat??? But still keeps all different shades of colour on car like in hue/sat.

With hue/sat u can do anythin, especially wiv the above pic. U doin it right? The way I done it (usin Adobe Photoshop 7), was to go to Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation, then mess around with the sliders. But you only wanna be editing the reds.
