good engines these. The engines previous to this was teh C16XE with 109bhp and slightly better stats. However, the engines were de-tuned from 150bhp by aid of different inlet manifold and cams. This is why these engines respond so well to aftermarket inlet manifolds. Lots of bhp fomr not much £££.
Do a search on posts about Mantzel, LExmaul and Velos inlet manifolds. Its been discussed quite a lot and are good basic mods to do.

I disagree about the cam downgrade, the standard cams are very good, with little gains from replacing them on standard management.

Yes, but the engine was designed with a different inlet manifold and cams, or so it says in the report when the GSi cam out 10 years ago (Still got the report).
It had a slightly different cam profile.

the C16XE has the same cams as the X16XE. The only part of the head which is different is the Compression Ratio. The C16XE has a compression ratio of 11:1 whilst the X16XE is 10.5:1

IM not disputing that. IM saying the cams were different when the engine was designed with 150bhp
The cam profile was changed and the inlet manifold changed to reduce power and make the car more driveable on the road.

Ok if thats what it says in the report! I think the C16 and X16 cams are different, one of them is anyway! (I think, or is it 1.4 to 1.6? LOL)
Cyber, the c16xe head has bigger ports than the X engines....

The C16Xe has bigger inlet valves 80% the size of the 2litre engine the X16XE dosnt, this is one of the reasons the C16 XE responds better to tuning

aaah ok. All i know that other than a slightly milder cam, Vauxhall reduced the 150bhp down to 109 by the restricitve inlet manifold and plenum. What else was different?

The X16XE has castings in its exhaust ports for the EGR shite. I've machined these out on my engine It's true that the C16XE has slightly bigger inlet valve sizes, but bigger doesn't always mean better. More important is flow speed and efficiency mixing of air/fuel mixture. People claim the X16XE doesn't respond to tuning as well as the C engine, yet I've got 214bhp - more than any tuned C16XE engine I know of

yes the inlet manifold is a great cheapish way of releasing a fair few BHP. Throttle Bodies go down a treat on the X16XE engine. Is that what you have Andy?

I didnt know the C16 XE head had all the EGR ports in it?????? my C16 XE aint got EGR!!, or are they blanked off or something.
Any way put a new inlet manifold on like a mantzel one which i have and depending on the condition of ya engine you can gain up to 22BHP

Yes he does. I do too.
The inlet manifold replacements are the best bhp per £££ you will see on any N/A car.

My C16XE head had the EGR ports in it, no egr, they are all blanked off with the inlet and exhaust manifold flanges.
