I was bored and had recently had my car serviced (and it had been running so shit) - I've been wanting to test my car to see if it made any difference for a while, but cause I got new brake discs and pads I needed to wear them in first (hence no accelerating for ages and late braking).
Anyway, I've run in the brakes and thought I'd give it a test, its so much more responsive and smoother. I don't think the plugs had been changed since the car was built (40000 miles hehe) and the oil before hand was a thick sludge... now my engine has been flushed and nice new oil has been put in its running so much better.
Anyway, I took the car out to a bit of dual carriage way near me (M40 junc 2 roundabout) where there's a section of dual carriage way and 2 roundabouts at each end, one tight one and one wide one, so perfect for testing speed / accel and handling.
Anyway, I'd been going around in circles for a while and as I came onto the m40 roundabout from beaconsfield way and turned right, I noticed some lights behind me approaching fast. I thought 'good a challenge and slowed down to let them catch up'
They probably saw my clear rear lights, alloys etc and thought lets teach this boy racer a lesson. we turned onto the dual carriageway and I was driving quite slowly (ish) in 3rd waiting for him to goto overtake and I had my car ready in the power.
He started signalling and I floored it. He nailed it (now in the outside lane just behind my rear bumper) - He probably wasn't even set up completely, probably had it in 4th initially thinking I was a little 1.2 corsa that was going too slowly for him. Then as I nailed it he probably dropped it down a gear.
Anyway, all the way through 3rd we were pretty even (him about level with my rear wheel) - as I changed to 4th he gained a bit of ground and his front was just about level with the back of my seat.
floored in 4th he was now gaining inch by inch on me - but nothing amazing, I needed to turn right and so backed off and then moved into the outside lane. He braked a bit and headed for the tight roundabout (it was abit wet out too) and I followed. We were both doing about 50 round it (and considering how tight it is, it was a bit dodgy - luckily my suspension kit was holding the road well - the back was slipping out a bit coz of the wet...
Then he pulled off to the left.
Ok granted his mk 5 zetec S (saw it on the back) did handle quite well round the roundabout, but basically he struggled to get past my Sxi when it was fully in the power and it was only when I was in 4th at about 80 he started gaining...
My Sxi = 75 bhp...
His shitbox = 103 bhp...
considering he might not of been in the power at the start and I was initially infront - he did beat me... but not easily...
and for 28 more bhp - I would of thought he should of wiped the floor with me!
Paul J
(Disclaimer, I'm not claiming my SXi to be fast... These roads were empty and I know the engine is way under powered for what it is in a zetec S - but still!!!)

He was, hence it was him going to overtake ... He wanted to get past to go left. plus if he wasn't trying why take it to 85-90 odd mph on a normal dual carriage way?

don't be stupid
They have more power more torque and weigh more or less the same, unless your clear light s add 20bhp then he was a poof.
***My own disclaimer, I do not like zetec s fiesta's but they are faster than corsa sxi's

It worries me that while you are booting your lawnmower you are paying no attention to what is going on in front of you, and your more focussed on the exact distance Mr Zetec-S is behind (who was probably in 5th anyway)
I know the Zetec-S underperforms for a modern day hot hatch, but seriously mate, i see you post every day about you racing cars with bigger cc engines and you beating them cos your "in the power"
You are a blurberry cap wearing oik, and probably highly entertain other road users with your 1.2 red-line antics.
