coldsores are caused by the herpes simples type 1 virus. this virus resides i your dorsal root ganglion untill it starts to replicate. this can be due to stress or coming off of an illness. once you have the virus you have it for life and it can be transfered to genitals as well. therefore I don;t suggest you touch a sore then have a wank 
the most comman form of treatment is acyclovir or more commanly known as Zovirax. this inhibites the viral thymidine kinase which is important for phosporylating thymides before they are incorporated into DNA.

and Zovirax works. Whenever I even think I may be getting a coldsore, I stick lots on, regularly and it doesn't appear.

works only when you start to get the tingle. once the sore is there I think it is less effective. remember to use your own glass, towel etc etc. anythign that is used by every one you should not use. the virus does not live for long out side the body though

Just a pity Zovirax is about £50 for a pea-sized tube.
I always use after-shave, doesn't make them look nice, but burns them off nice and quickly! Just glad I don't get them very often any more...
