Took my car into pug today to get them to cjeck out a slight whining noise the gearbox is making, i knew it needed either replacing or a bearing replaced, neway they quoted me for a new gearbox £1017 + £210 labout thats more than a new fucking engine!. wot are my options cus thats ridiculous?

pug are really really madly expensive all the time anyway, try another garage, they will be cheaper, or if you knwo anyone good with cars and maybe get the too do it and get parts from a scrappy

Get a local mechanic to do labour and pick up the parts from scrappy. Or flog car

£210 aint that bad for labour on a gbox chnge to be fair.

im sure it doesnt nee a new g.box its just them being thick and lazy, i know of a place that will strip it and change a bearing cus im sure thats the prob for around £250 sheets

true as its costing me £100 to fit a full suspention on ma corsa. But then i thought this was cheapish?

i can handle the labour its the cost of the pissing g.box that got me, i almost said "christ i dont need a whole new car" wen they told me

Steve there is a place in Reading that will get you a new gearbox and fit it for around £500.

Pug will rip you off.

I went to vauxhall today to see how much they wanted to fit Irmscher springs, i wont say how much i get the springs for but they want £100 for labour to fit them

Take it to a gearbox specialist and have it rebuilt.

Find a transmission specialist and ask them for their opinion. I think a lot of garages dont really have a clue what it is - they are happy to strip it and bill you loads for the privelage.

I know a few people who have been to 3 garages and they have all said different things - some verging on silly.

i belive fitting a full suspention - shocks n springs is around a 2 hour job @ around £45 per hour labour costs at the garage i go to.

Now's the time to fit an LSD Steve Sounds like Peugeot are trying to shaft you. Pro-Tec (Corsa Rally specialists) are only charging me £150 to:

remove current gearbox from Corsa, strip it and extract diff, fit diff into another F15 box together with different cluster and then fit the whole assembly back onto car.
