i was wondering if....
their is any vauxhall turbo that can be put directly onto a corsa gsi engine??? eg the turbo from a 2.0litre calibra??
isit possible? if so how hard to fit and wats involved? or is it even worth it?
what turbos are available for the 1.6 16v Gsi engine? price?
i know their are cheaper alternatives but i was just wondering??
just luv the idea of the TSSSSSS sound with a turbo wen gear change
wish vauxhall had made the corsa gsi a turbo in the first place!!

from what i know i think they go on the cylinders or something and look like trumpets really.
back to your topic i don't think the turbo would go onto the gsi lump but mainly it just wouldnt be feasible coz you would have to uprate a lot of the internals etc etc

yes fitting a 2.0Turbo from a Calibra, Cavalier will set you back £3500 all in. Alternatively, try Courtenay for a 1.6 Turbo conversion, v v expensive and not reliable. TB's sonud fantastic under load and will make for a quicker car for every 1bhp gained.

you can buy a 2.0 turbo engine with everything you need for 1k/1.5k. mounts and shafts, etc, 500/600. and then fit it yourself. easy peasy lol

A normal engine has a throttle body which is connected to all the cylinders.
Throttle bodies have one of these for each cylinder.

so each cylinder has its own suppy of fresh air, meaning it can get 4 times as much air down into the chambers

Not necessarily.
As Mike said, every fuel injected engine has a single throttle body. Standard systems go like this:
Filter > induction pipe > throttle body > manifold splays into 4 tubes (or however many cyls the engine has, one for each cylinder) with the fuel injectors plumbed in > head.
Quad throttle bodies basically replace most of the standard fuel injection system. They bolt straight onto the head, with one throttle body for each cylinder.
The little trumpet looking things are the air intakes or 'ram tubes'. If you look just inside them, you'll see the 'butterfly', which is like a coin that pivots on its diameter line, depending on how hard you've got your foot to the floor. When your foot's off the acc pedal, the butterfly nearly blocks off the intake hole. As you press the acc pedal, it pivots and opens up more and more, letting in more air, until your foot is on the floor, and the butterfly is pivoted to its max position. It's like a valve.
With throttle bodies, if you can see into the end of the trumpets, then there's no air filter. I dunno why, or how that can be, without destroying the engine. You CAN still have an induction kit, by having a plenum/chamber over the little trumpets, connected to an intake pipe and into the filter. That'd be the reccommended and safe way to have quad throttle bodies. That way, your engine is safe from having pieces of dirt and shiitt flying into the ram tubes (trumpets) and straight into the combustion chamber.
There you go. Your little lesson for today.

You can get sock or sausage filters for them.
Turbo conversion:
No manifold fits straight on, its either courtenays crappy one or a custom/modded one.
Could use a T3 off an RST
Will need a intercooler and lowered compression
Need to control fueling/ignition.

I saw a citreon that GMC here in Newton Stewart did, it had a K&N or similar on every throttle body!

Throttle Bodies on a 1.6 16v engine. This ones putting out 214bhp
I've been out in both a 1.6 16v TB Corsa and 1.6 16v Turbod car. TB are FARRRR much better.
Turbo was very smooth, and picked up to the F13 6620rpm limiter very well (117mph). You got a slight ptissshhh on gear change, but nothing like a proper turboed car
Throttle bodies are the way to go on a 1.6 16v engine

Indded throttle bodies are the way to go.
Ausie gsi most people with throttle bodies cover the 'trumpets' with a foam filter you get with the set-up.
Whoever asked if you loose the induction, as above you do, but they sound 10 x better at full chat than any induction kit

TB's HELL YEH, sound PHAT, give nice smoooooooooth power curve unlike a turbo (some people prefer the turbos power curve thou) SOOOO much more reliable mate, and proberly cost u less ££££
if it were my motor then i'd have the throttle bodies anyday,
OR
twin 45 webber carbs, very much like TB's but working on a mechanical jet using the vacume of the intake to "suck" fuel from the jet, TB's use an injector
twin webbers sound luuvly just like TB's cost less but will use more fuel,
either way, steer clear of turbo unless ur dropping in the whole lump

Yeah mate, you could do that, and as you've said, most people just bung the foamy on. But THIS looks way better! Well, I reckon, anyway. This is how the 20valve Corolla engine and the Nissan Pulsar (Sunny) GTi-R have their quad throttle set-up. Looks pretty smick, hey? Also, if you wanted to run quad throttles with a turbo (like the GTi-R), this is the set-up you'd need.

Thats not got throttle bodies, its got a single one you can clearly see. It simply has the Velos induction system inlet manifold.

i was also about to point out that it only has the velos inlet manifold, and certainly no turbo!!

Well depending on how much you want to spend on the whole setup, with an SBD TP164 kit you would be looking at a sub 7 second 0-60, and top speed only limited to the gearbox and rev limit, but probably around 130-135 mph with an 8k rev limit. Torque wouldnt be increased by that much, maybe only 20-30lb/ft.
