it could be burning oil. Or could be a oil leak. My sump on my MPI sri is knackered and needs replacing cos i was loosing oil like mad.
But i bought some new Magnetex fully sinthetic and i have only toped it up once since i put it in for the first time. probably cos i had some of my old oil still in there.
i last filled it up two weeks ago and not noticed it drop at all. i guess its more viscous and isn't pissing out through the holes in my sump.
Think i might not pay £125 to get my sump and gasket changed now.

it could be that ur rocker cover is bust. the rocker is the corky think that site uder where you put the oil in. if you can see oil leeking down the front thats ur problem, they are very cheap and easy to fit. get them for halfords.
or you could have a hole in the sump or the sump pug as fallen out. the sump holds the oil in. have a look under ur car and see where it is leeking. they are not that cheap to replace but u will have to take it into a garage.
hope that helped

yer that ur problem, you take the top layer of, the metal cover, which is bolted i think, the u should see the rocker cover, that will probably flack of in ur hands because it is satuated in oil, then just replace it and clean the area. there migth be a few extra bits u have to take off, i have only watched my made do it on is fiesta, but it is easy i have been told.

surely if the oil is escaping thru the rocker cover then there would be drops on the drive
start the car & leave it idling on your drive have a look for oil leaks
you could just be using the wrong viscosity of oil, or the valve stem seals have gone
what year, and what oil viscosity & how many miles are on your car

let idle, or even get a mate to rev it at a sustained high rpm while you look for oil leaks, if you can find any then drain it and put some 15w40 oil into it and see if it still loses all
anything lower than 15 and it will be too thin and simply pissin it away

I've got the same prob with my 1.4 16v, I reakon my rocker cover gasket has had it.
I've brought a gasket kit which had the rubber rocker cover gaskets, went to fit them then realised that i had to take of the manifold inlet and the throtle body (which needs a new gasket on refitting), look like a right pain in th arse.
So i topped up the oil, shut the bonnet, kicked a bit of sand over the oil and went about my day.
If anyone knows of a easier way of replacing it please tell me.
