As some of you will already know my car didnt start ...again. Even though i went out in it for a good few miles on Tuesday.

I didnt leave any lights on, or the ignition for that matter so i've come to the conclusion that my battery is dead

Thing is, i'd like to just go to Halfords and get them to change it, its only a fiver after all to fit, but what happens if the same happens to this battery? Then i'd be pissed!!

What else could it be apart from the battery that is causing it to lose its charge and not start? I charged it up for about 10minutes using one of them halfords 1200cc car chargers and all was ok. It almost cut out though when i revved it...

thanks for the help

then i think it could be the battterey.

does it look old?

if you get a new batterey get a calcium one from halfords
and if poss get a diesel one they pack more power and last longer if you do stop start journeys or have big stereo

i've basically decided that im going to get a new one. Can't hurt.

Thing is, how do i get the old battery out? and what connections do i take off first? '-' right? and then + ?

Also, i heard it's held in the car with only the 1 bolt, is that right?

oh and thanks for the link daman2k

dont bother your arse getting a diesel battery, it may be greater ampage than the std battery but your alternator will have to work harder to charge it.

aye one bolt holds a little plate which holds the battery in position

disconnect the -ve terminal, then the +ve

reconnect the +ve, then the -ve

and wipe some grease (or vaseline!) round the terminals to prevent them going rusty

To be honest, I got a 55aH Delphi one from a motor factors and it is a calcuim one cost just over £30. Halfords tend to be too dear. Vauxhall also do their value 'Go' batteries which are very good value usually and even better on tradeclub

the plate is only a small square bit of metal

just go and have a look at your car, all will become clear

its a 10min job to remove and fit a new battery

What effect will this have on the ECU? Do i need to leave the battery off for any length of time for it to reset?

Cheers
