Car has been making a strange rattling noise from the engine for the past couple of months, but has got worse recently. The sound is a lot louder when foot to floor and/or going up hills in 4th. Any one have any ideas what could be making the sound. The car is a 1l 12v, and i found out the other day it has a chain instead of cam belt, could it be this creating the noise.
The sound is loud outside the car as my mate driving in front of me could hear it when we were going up hill. It doesn't make the sound if the car is revved out of gear.

Recently the car has also develeped a problem that when i am at a standstill, and the car is in gear the revs will climb from tick over(about 1100rpm) to about 2000rpm. They start to rise when the clutch is pressed, and will drop after a while, or drop if i tap the accelertor.
Any ideas?

reving problem will be the idle speed control valve.
give it a clean with carb cleaner.
rattling noise, erm, could be a dodgy engine mount, could be gearlinkage vibrating against sometthing, loose manifold or exhaust part, or induction kit if you have one vibrating against something.
