I want to put a 2 litre valver into my corsa, been looking into it for some time now. Most red tops are way down in england which is a bit far for me. But I've found a cheap and local cav 2 litre 16v ecotec engine. I know they are are less powerful than the red top version but I'm thinking about dropping it into the corsa anyway. What sort of mounts do they need? just the same as the red top? I have a power steering corsa too, any problems there? Hows about wiring? I guess I would need the ecotec loom and stuff just the same as doing a C20XE. Anyone who has done a conversion like this before then I would be grateful to hear from them

Cheers

i'm fairly (80%) sure that cavs never came with an ecotec engine.

some of the later ones had ecotec printed on the spark cover, but they were still the old XE.

the key is in the shape of the spark plug cover.
if it's 'L' shaped then it's XE, if it's straight then it's XEV ecotec

i was 20% sure i'd be wrong all along

well, more helpfully then, you'd need the engine, loom, ecu all from the ecotec cav.
then mounts shafts and hubs for the conversion.
mtech in sweden or holland make kits for the conversion, but i'm not sure who the importer is now that pvd have gone down the shitter.

a point worth noting is that it's harder to get more power from the ecotec engines.
if you're just going to install it and enjoy lazy power, then it wont bother you.
the red top has been used for racing and kit cars for years, so there are lots of well developed tuning parts readily available for them.
the ecotec does not have the same motorsport background, and hence you can't get as many bits or as easily as the XE

I didn't know they had imobiliser transponder thingies, which sucks because it will probably interfere with my alarm. Late cav CDX or CDi whatever have ecotecs. I think I'll just keep looking for an XE now that I have read up about it. Although the ecotecs seem to be going for less than £100 some with less than 50K miles on the clock. Now all I need is money and a weekend off
