Hi,

I've just bought a 12" sub and amp and have fitted them in my car.

The only problem is that I don't know how to setup the gain and crossover

On my amp I have bass boost, should this be on or off?!

Then I have a crossover between 32Hz and 320Hz, what should this be set at?

I know what the gain does but when it's set to low I haven't really got any bass! But when it's high and I stand outside the car all I can hear is a rattling from the back of the boot, the vocals from the front speakers and no bass at all! The bass is fine when i'm inside the car or I lift the boot up!

Sorry about the long post .

Hope you can help!

Cheers

U want the crossover to be closer to 32hz...20hz is the lowest frequency the human ear can listen to.
Or LPF (low Pass Filter)
Use the BassBoost if u want..it might add some DB. (They normally do)
With the Gain..turn the slope all the way to its minimum settin and put on a song with a fairly steady beat....and turn ur Headunit up slowly until it starts to distort slightly...then back off the volume abit until its a clear signal.
Now with the HU still playin do the same with the gain.

As for ur rattling outside the car....get some Dynamat & sound deaden the whole boot...might prove to be expensive & may not solve it. The Number plate maybe a source of the rattling aswell.
but dont worry about the rattling...u dont sit outside ur car when u drive do u!

Best to turn bass boost off. Set the crossover to about 125hz if you like the punchy dance stuff, or to about 80hz if u like your R&B ect.

Turn the gain up a bit under half way and you should be fine, just dont cane it for a bit.

aye...play ur sub at low volume for a while (could be anything from 2 hours to 2 weeks) dependin on the manufactuer
this wil loosen up all the stiff parts which move when the subs playin.
It's known as runnin-in.
I've not done this with my first system and blew the voice coil.
So I'm speakin from experience.

Sounds abit better now!

Still can't hear any bass outside the car!

I think the rattling is because I have put the wire behind the plastic trim in the back and its vibrating! I'll have to re-route them this weekend.
