1.4 8v.....
theres alot of play with the gear stick. when i goto my car in the morn its hard to put into 1st a lil bit hard to put into 2nd, but gets a lil bit better as i drive through the day... once or twice in the past couple of months its not gone into reverse easily either.
could this be the clutch cable need adjusting?
or
gearbox oil need renewing?
or
a new clutch?
or
gear linkage need adjusting/seeing too?
im gona try change the gearbox oil tomorrow not got a haynes manual so i will have to guess what to do? searched on here and found you need a new gasket when you open the underside of the gearbox or something? anyhow will give it a go any advice welcome

mine was the gear linkage, the nylon bushes had worn down n were nearly hanging out, was hard to get into 1st, eventually i cudnt get 1st unless i rammed the gearstickacross the gearbox n forced it in 1st

how hard is that to do mate? and ho wmuch does it cost? for myself to do... and a price if i was taking it to a garage?

I have the same problem on getting it in reverse and 1st.. it pisses me off!

Yeah mine stiff at the moment, its always a new linkage job, but you could try adjusting it first.
New linkage from vaux is like £110 +vat, autovaux can do em for like £80 inc vat

I know that I need to adjust mine, I can find all the bits that are in the Guide on here except for the 13mm bolt under the car!!
If I could just find this, I could reset my linkage and tell you if that fixes this problem.

Go under the car, follow the shaft coming from your gear change lever inside the car, and just as you come towards the bulkhead you will see the 13mm nut, just loosen it
