Does anybody know if the studs that hold the bearing cap and clamp the cams down, actually come out ? May need to for a head skim.

Its a c20Xe btw...

you skim the mounting face underneath. the studs don't need to come out for that do they?
they'll be removable anyway.

That was my query, can the studs come out? They may need to so that the top part of the head can sit flat on the machine bed and the gasket face can be skimmmed.

Yeah they do, just counter lock another 13mm nut over the other and unscrew, and then threadlock the mofo when you put it back in there.

try to heat up a bit the studs and try again

nah they dont... leave them in mate..... The threads on the head are so fine... strip one and ul need to helicoil it.. as im finding out... When i was tightening down the cam bearings 10 out of 22 studs stripped their threads.... be warned.....
i never even got to 10f/lbs of torque

Ive give up now and its the engine shops problem if they really wanna get them out
I dont think they will have stripped their threads cos i was puttin plenty of force ino tryin them loose and the threads are still ok.
