make sure he gets the head skimmed as it will be warped due to overheating. Overwise it will happen again, doesn't cost much

If your headgasket has gone dont drive it as it will crack the head.

Price sounds about right for a small garrage as vaux will charge at least £500

Make sure when he is doing the head gasket you get a new water pump, belt and rollers.

Didnt you post up about 3 weeks ago that you had suspected piston ring failure? black/bluey smoke etc?

Yep and it happened a couple of days after when i was driving to watch the European Finals

I only just got new rollers and belt done a month ago. sure i would need it changed again? If i do, what a waste of £££ last time.

Does he have to do a pressure test after it is fixed?

I think Vauxhall well charge more then £500. as all the small garages i called said that the Vauxhall Corsas (especially 16v) are a bugger to get into. so they all qouted me £600+.

thats why im abit concerned about this garage chargin me so little.

250-350 sounds about right for a small garrage I had to have mine done to find the cyl head was cracked so it may be worthwhile paying £40 to have the head pressre tested and £40 to have it skimmed. Will definatly need a new cam belt....water pump if you can stretch to it?

mate i run out of AA credits every year i use them to the max so dont owrry you have like another four-five call outs

If the car breaks down due to it being their fault then you should be covered but if its down to your neglect then it wont.

After its fixed just make sure you keep an eye on the water temp and keep an eye on the level of coolant. Also keep an eye out for white cmoke. Quicker the problem is found the quicker it can be resolved with little comeback to you.

Reputable ones do, and i'm sure trading standards will have something to say if you pay a garage to repair your car and it breaks again.

Water pumps cost about £25, won't be any more labour charges changing one because they are held in with 3 bolts and take a matter of minutes to remove and fit.

thats definately not healthy you have two options

rebuild the engine you have, new piston rings etc etc replace most parts with uprated items (if you wish to tune the car)

or:

get another 1.6 16v and just fit that only risk is that there is no gurantee that the new engine wont have problems.
