tried this mission 3 times and died

On the third island, you have to get over to the army base and shoot gunships down with the gun emplacement before stealing the massive helicopter that can pick up cars.

How the fook did people do this? I've tried parachuting my way in just get shot down, the guards are mental and all have M4s

any help appreciated
