c:\documents and settings/sisters name>format c:
then i type yes and enter
then says format cannot run because the volume is in use by another process.format may run if this volume is dismounted first.
all opened handles to this volume would then be invalid (Y/N)
how do i format this pc then ?

Boot the system using the Windows XP CD and format from there.

Can you actually format the comp using the XP cd???
I usually just restart in DOS and type Format C:

You can't get to dos if you have xp installed.
Use the cd.

As not formatted a XP comp yet. My previous comp had 98 SE.
