a friend of mine is building a road spec x16xe. it used to be a 1.4, but he used a crank and pistons from 1.6 and rebored the block so everything fits inside - no problems so far
he's building a new custom intake, based on mantzel's powerbox and the limiter is going to be raised to ~7500rpm. the engine already has a new exhaust manifold, fitted from a c20xe. the rest of the exhaust is stock at the moment. the engine will be mapped using perfect power's smt6 piggyback.
we need to know if any of you guys has a similar setup to this - we're wondering which cams would do better? shrick's 256 or 264? compression ratio is already raised to 11.5:1 (because of flat 1.6 pistons). should we cut pockets in pistons? on stock cams everything's fine. how about the shricks? any experiences?
oh.. one more thing.. we might want to use c20ne injectors, as those from c20xe give too much fuel. will this be any good, or will stock injectors do their job as well?

i had a similar spec engine and i got 155 bhp with standard cams (need to be fitted with verniers to dial them in properly) and omex management.
unless you go for aftermarket management and get veriers you will not get any good gains from cams. the x16xe with a mantzel type inlet produces all of its power from 5000 rpm+. cams will push the power right up the revs and probably cause a loss of mid range power and torque. #
however, you will get gains from the cams, but how often does your car get driven at 6000 rpm+???

1.6 pistons are pocketed as standard tho.... with 264 cams you wont need to pocket them more than standard. would go for 264 cams max.
as corsa808says standard injectors will be fine.

Did he used a X1.4XE cylinderhead?yes, the inlet ports from a X1.4XE head and the inlet manifold are smaller than the X1.6XE. When you use your X.1.4XE head with 264 cams, your power will drop after 6800rpm. And with a X1.6XE head\inlet manifold and 264 cams your power will drop after 7500rpm.

yes, the x14xe heads are different, although with headwork they will both be the same.
the cams are different as well.

and don't forget to use a x1.6xe inlet manifold

the inlet for the x14xe has the same port sizes as the x16xe. ive just checked them
vaux also list them as the same part number.

ive just checked them too
I've got a inlet manifold of a x.1.4xe and a x1.6xe. And they are different, the ports of the 1.4 manifold are 5 mm smaller then the 1.6 manifold.
X.16XE manifold, top =49mm and down 51mm
X.14XE manifold, top =44mm and down 46mm

The heads are the same the inlets are smaller,
you can get verniers based on the original pulleys to allow you to keep the std ecu and piggy back it. You woudl want cams of around 270deg to get a good peak power at around 7.2k
11.5:1 is pretty high have you skimmed the head much?

yes, he used x14xe head, although we always thought 1.4/1.6 heads were the same.. at least that's what EPC says
the block was skimmed ~0.8mm
1.6 pistons were flat, not pocketed as someone said before... not sure about the engine they come from though

when you want to use the 264 cams optimal, use a x1.6xe head or ported the inlet ports of a 1.4 head to 55mm

They are with added pockets by the way, and pictures of DIY headwork performed by a mate.
