Reboot is only like turning the power off and on. You'll need more than that.

Quick answer is an XP CD, normally your computer will boot to that when you put it in and everything happens fairly automatically.

You'll lose all installed programs though, and I would also consider backing up files, pics etc. before you do anything.

you'll need to (as ian said) back up everything you want to save, buy an XP cd, change your bios to boot from CD first, then press any key when it asks, follow the instuctions, delete partitions create a new 1 and install xp on it.

You can just run an Upgrade, which will keep your current programs/files/etc but will run like shit.
Make sure you have any drivers you need for your hardware (see the manufacturers website).

So just upload to the net any pics etc I want to keep or put them on disc. Then get an XP disc and install that. Will that cancel everything I have just now. Then just need to reinstall my net and msn etc?

id personally advise against an upgrade. may end up with all sorts of conflicts.

and yes uploading to somewhere is a good idea. or use hotmail/gmail to send yourself all your photos/files etc you wish to keep (presuming you dont have a cd burner of any description).

I would ask around any friends who might have a winXP CD, and borrow that, unless you wish to fork out £70 for crappy microsoft software.
pop the CD in the PC, restart the PC and it should load up off the cd automatically.
just make sure when given the option to 'Format the drive using NTFS' (you can choose 'quick' option if you like).

hope that helps

Yeah, of course, I was just offering an "easy" alternative.

Will activation work if you 'borrow' a cd.
And I wouldn't call xp crappy software.
I think it does its job quite well.

I think the crappy bit was aimed more at micro$oft more than the software.
