got a media centre PC, it has an AGP slot and one PCI slot. In the AGP port i have a GFX card with SVIDEO out on it, in the PCI i have my surround sound card.
Im thinking about putting a TV card in the PCI slot, but this would mean removing the surround sound card, is there anything i can buy to possibly plug in a usb port, or can i use the optical ports on the front or what for my surround sound?

can you not use your onboard sound?
im sure you would be ok so long as you can get the same type of lead?
i bought one of these for my media center:
its just like a normal PC, with loads of room!

the surround needs an output for front back and centre/sub onboard sound only has 2 channel single jack output, just like a headphone socket or something

best thing would be to get a riser card for the pci slot and see if you can wedge another card in the case (or look at replacing it). Or look at replacing the graphics card with a ATI Wonder etc with on board TV tuner.
Otherwise there are plenty of soundcards out to be used with USB, like soundblaster stuff etc
edit - doesnt the shuttle have onboard sound on the motherboard? see if it has a digital output if it does, might beable to use that!

could try getting hold of an optical connector (ebay it for cheapo stuff) and just test it out, chance is it will work. Or you could read the manual/google, will probably tell you

You get usb surround boxes for laptops.
One of them should do the job.
The optical outs are digital though yes.

only one up for auction and it's used:
http://search.ebay.co.uk/hauppauge-wintv-usb_W0QQcatrefZC6QQcoactionZcompareQQcoentrypageZsearchQQcopagenumZ1QQfromZR10QQfsooZ1QQfsopZ1QQftrtZ1QQftrvZ1QQga10244Z10425QQsacatZQ2d1QQsaprchiZQQsaprcloZQQssPageNameZWLRS
the one on dabs seems a good price tbh. they normally retail well over £100.

Right this is the one i believe will work, and MS website says its mce compatible
http://www.dabs.com/productview.aspx?Quicklinx=2NCS&SearchType=1&SearchTerms=wintv+pvr+usb2&PageMode=3&SearchKey=All&SearchMode=All&NavigationKey=0
However they do a MCE upgrade kit
http://www.dabs.com/productview.aspx?Quicklinx=3YGR&SearchType=1&SearchTerms=wintv+pvr+usb2&PageMode=3&SearchKey=All&SearchMode=All&NavigationKey=0
I already have a MCE remote control etc, i take it the first link will still work fine even though its not the MCE upgrade kit one?

the 1st link is compatible with all windows from 2000 to xp but the 2nd one(upgrade one) seems to be compatible with only MCE.
http://www.dabs.com/productview.aspx?Quicklinx=3YGR&SearchType=1&SearchTerms=wintv+pvr+usb2&PageMode=3&SearchKey=All&SearchMode=All&NavigationKey=0&v=2#infoarea
i think you would be able to use the 1st one (£82). but better check again

If its exactly the same thing minus a remote it shoudl be fine.
Its the onboard hardware instead of doing it in software that MCE needs.
