its a loud knockin/ thumping sound coming from the engine i think when i am idling doesnt happen when i accelerate. Any ideas and what should i do.

Just got this problem with my car, it could be the tappets, when your car idles does this noise dissapear sometime then come back ?, if so one of the tappets is sticking, a good oil flush and additive should cure it.

loud knocking and thumping noises will NOT be cured with oil additive

is it idling right? milage? is it actually the engine or something in the engine? what engine is it?

thumping noises is usually bottom end, bearings, crank, conrods etc...

well its a 14nz engine 50k on the clock
and im pretty sure its not tappets as it is more of a knocking sound if tht helps

Now that cant be good! You have checked the oil level and such right? Just incase they arent connected...
