SBD make all the parts you need. You should phone them up rather than looking online.

try harder - ok, you show me what they come under, the clses thing is engine parts which mainly has pistons/rods...
....
also, are steel tensioners available?..
yes std ones are steel - are they high tensile steel??...do they have uprated barings - as these are usually the first part to break up...
...
.or is it best to do away with the tensioner and tension on the waterpump?...
what would that achieve - look at any trackday vaux engine they all do away with the tensioner, as its floating and if it breaks it will cause damage....tensioning on the pup eliminates tensioner failure.
......

look on sbds site - exactl;y which valves and springs??

cheers

4.The cam tensioner is made from chocolate.
The standard cam tensioner pulley is plastic and can be breakdown in time, throwing the cambelt. You must replace with an uprated alloy version to be safe.
(copied direct from sbd site...)

cheers for finding the tensioners tho

Dont know where you found that, but if you look at your car i think you will find it is only the idlers which are plastic the tensioner is metal to begin with!

*sbd homepage... http://www.sbdev.co.uk/Main.htm
*click the red vaux engine on tb's.
*then next to the red c16 it says 'track and race car magasine' - click it.

it also tells you about the waterpump tensioning.

CAM TENSIONER
Uprated cam belt idlers
Price: £70.45
Where: www.sbdev.co.uk
THE vital starting point, even on a standard motor, as it gives total peace of mind at high revs on older engines. Why take the risk of throwing a cambelt and wreaking the engine when a fix is so cheap?

so thats idlers they made the same mistake as you did earlier in the thread when you said "cheers for finding the tensioners though" they are not tensioners they are idlers. There is only one tensioner it is metal.

edited so you dont miss the point

unless you are going for lairy cams theres no need for uprated valves, valve springs or a fixed tensioner.

will it be used on the road? if so then theres a big downside to the fixed tensioner because you wont be able to use the cambelt cover without cutting 2 big holes in it for the waterpump and tensioner bolt head.

only 'uprated' bits you will really need is the SBD rollers and ARP rod bolts.

well if your valves are going to bounce you have got problems

they will be fine. standard springs are fine for mild cams.
