Does anyone know how I can select an area and blend that layer with a gradient into transparency to reveal the layer below?

Or basically, do a gradient that fades a layer into transparency? Is that possible?

I take it the "layer" is a picture, as opposed to a solid colour

I don't quite understand. But i think you want a picture in the middle, with a gradient either side?

I have two images, in two seperate layers. They are placed side by side with a little overlapping, id like the two layer to merge into one another with a gradient

Ok, If you make your gradient, chose the color. Place it over the images, then on the layers box, press CTRL and click the layer on the box, it should outline that layer, press delete, and it wont be on the image but inbetween, in theory Then repeat it.

There is an easy way of doing it...it's slipped my mind and pissing me off now

I've only got 5.5 here at work tho, i'm sure it's easier in CS2. I'll take a look when I get home if you've not sorted it.

i do it by choosing say the top layer which is say the left image and click the layer mask button in the layers pallette, its a box with a white circle in it. Then click the gradient tool, make sure its set at foreground to background and then click and drag from left to right on the top layer and it will fade it into the other image. Drag a few times if you want it to be more graduale

sorry if that makes no sense, i'm used to just doing it, not explaining :-P ( i should be using it at work at the moment but im to busy reading CS )
