What are the differences between the blocks?
Are the 8v blocks the same as the early type 16v blocks?
Are all the 2.0 blocks the same, be it early or late type?
Is it possible to put used pistons into a new block without much trouble?

I'm guessing, but I'd say yes, as the 1.6 8v and 16v blocks are the same, chances are vauxhall used the block they already had with the 2 litres...

Yea, the heads are swapable. I am confused about the timing belts though. There are two types and if I do what I want to do then I would like to be able to use an early type timing belt...

- 16v pistons wont fit 8v rods.
- XE crank and rods are stronger
- 8v block doesnt have the brass valve in the rear most oil gallery between cylinders 2 + 3, without it the 16v head will run with low oil pressure
- 8v crank only has 6 flywheel bolt holes, 16v has 8

Ok, so to make a 16v engine a 16v block is needed... Do blocks come up for sale often or is it better to just buy a spare engine?

Probably wont be buying it for a while. I'm just trying to figure out my options. I am not 100% with my 2.0 engine. It needs a helicoil done in one of the head bolt threads and it has a snapped bolt stuck in one of the sump threads. I can't get the bolt out myself as it is properly stuck in there and I'd have to send the block off to be helicoiled. WOuld rather the thing to be perfect before I put it back in...
