Quite loud at the moment...any ideas of sorting this. is a service and oil change the way forward?

engine? and do an oil and filter change first using correct oil

10-40 semi syn 3 litres

could be timing chain noisy, not tappets

possibily - they are known to jump/ and timing to go

its the only weak point of the engine, everything else is pretty good

tappets-what u got, a fiesta?!?

joking mate. check oil like has been said then maybe have timing chain checked-normally tensioners give way and timing jumps a tooth

1.0 12v have a 3 pot engine so they tick anyways mate

all cars have tappets some hydralic, most the new vauxhalls have tappets which you have to adjust. that engine is hydraulic tho

so is the 1.2 8v hydraulic, could be loads of things, like i said sound shite as normal, mine does and so do my m8s

yes it is, its onlt the new vauxhall engines that have adjusterable tappets

usually have oil filled hydraulic lifters-every new vaux engine i took apart did anyway?!
