Are the ICV and EGR valve the same thing, or are they both different?

Thanks

EGR circulates exhaust gas back into the inlet to reduce emissions.

ICV is a motor with allows air to bypass the throttle plate, allowing the engine to idle with the throttle at position 0.

is it possible that the ICV needs cleaning, or does it not get dirty and is more likely to need to be replaced to stop idling high?

Yeah they need cleaning.

Oil and crap comes up from the breather pipes and collects on the throttle valve and idle motor, making it stick.

Firstly tho, if its idling high check for airleaks.
What engine is it?

it's a 1.4 16v sri. It doesn't do it every time, but it does do it, which is why I was hoping it wouldn't need replacing. Is it best to clean it first then?

Thanks

You can clean it mate i had it done when i had it, but it only fixes it for a short time, once they go they need replacing i had 3 in the time i owned it i think.
Give brian a call too if you still have his number he changed mine a few times and knows all about it, he can probs tell you how to do it if you want to do it yourself.
