scouring pad? works for me but i have bad carbon build up so after 5 minutes it's all black again.

You want to clean INSIDE the exhaust?
Seems a bit pointless? lol

But ye, wire wool and metal cleaner/polish would work. I use that to clean the outside of stainless exhausts.
