It's a lot easier if you buy a spare one and sit in front of the telly and polish it.

i used a sanding sponge

half done nice fine 1 so it doesn't scratch

sand it down with wet and dry and keep increasing the grit up until like 1500 or something like that then polish. that would work wouldnt it??

Correct, it is metrology and works by the eye seeing more reflective 'grooves' so the finer the paper, the more grooves and the higher the effect.
Ideally keep movements on the same angular surface in the same direction, work linearly not in swirls.
